Production Blog #8: Final Editing

Image
As editing my Title was coming to an end. I focused on adding my final touches. I went through each part of the title and ensured they flowed well. I made sure the timing fit the timestamp given. Some of my text was off rhythm, so I fixed it. I did some quick changes to my transitions as well. Some cuts were edited to become smoother. I made sure the audio was clear. I made sure my sound effects were smooth. I made sure the color grading was good. I touched up with my contrast to affect the dramatic look as well. I removed anything that I felt was unnecessary. I did this so that I could keep a simple and straightforward message. I checked my spelling on the text as well. I made sure I was using the right font. After all of this, I watched the Title multiple times over to see if there was anything else I missed. In class, I asked my friends for some feedback as well. I then went into my title and edited the feedback they gave me, with very small improvements. The final version I was rea...

Production Blog #7: Special Effects Editing

Image
For my AICE Media Studies Title, I wanted to make special effects to ensure my Title depicted the true struggles of an athlete. I wanted this to be an emotional and powerful experience. I decided to experiment with different visual effects. I chose darker tones to show the emotion. The brightness was lowered at times as well. I added a fade-in at the beginning. I ensured I was emphasizing struggle. Symbolizing obstaces and setbacks athletes faced in their day to day lifes was my goal here. There was dramatic background music. Text timed to the music rhythm. Intense training moments. All of this was used to create a deeper story. I ensured I had a cinematic look to it. Making sure my font style for subtitles was dramatic as well. I didn't make it overly complex to ensure I was able to clearly get my message out. I tested multiple versions before finally coming to a conclusion. Each change I made was to reflect the struggles. This was a really important process. Overall, this helped...

Production Blog #6: More Editing

Image
Once my partner and I finished the new recording, we went to edit the Title again. The first thing I looked for was whether it reached the time limit. Once again, some extra things were cut short to fit in time. The first part of my editing was also done on my iPad. I used to put all the clips into one file to make things easier. I also noticed that some of the other clips were too long and had to be cut short. So I decided to take some things out. I cut out specific scenes that wasted clock time or just didn't make sense to be in the video. Such as some extra pan-outs. Once that was done, I transferred the clips to CapCut on my phone. When using CapCut it allowed me to add cool special effects to my Title. I added things like subtitles for the people who would want to read the words. I also increased the audio volume. After adding all of these, I really saw the Title coming together. However, I wasn't done; I still had a lot more to do. I went to re-edit the clips because ...

Production Blog #5: Initial Editing

Image
Once I finished recording, we went to edit the Title. The first thing I looked for was whether it reached the time limit. Some of the clips, like the practice videos, were cut short so that we would still fit the time. The first part of the editing was done on my iPad at home. I used to put all the clips into one file to make things easier. I noticed in that timeline that some of the other clips also went over the time limit. With that, I decided to take out some unnecessary things and tidy up the Title. Other than the throwing scenes, I cut down scenes like the warmups. I also cut down the scene where the walking started. After some of the main clips were edited, I transferred the clips to CapCut on my phone. With CapCut, I first started out by adding some special effects to parts of the Title. I also added subtitles as well. The effects were very cool. After adding all of these, I really saw the Title coming together. However, I wasn't done; I still had a lot more to do. I went ...

Production Blog #4: Final Refilm

Image
Once I thought I was all finished with my AICE Media Title, I realized that ome of my shots were messed up. A few clips were either blurry or out of focus. The angles weren't correct either. The Lighting was messed up. Due to these mistakes, I had to go back out there and film again. It was annoying seeing the errors. However I knew that it comes with directing Titles. I returned to the field, same time of the day to match the lighting. I made sure the new visuals matched up with the old ones. I had the camera focused carefully before shooting a new clip. The tripod was used more as well. The frame format was double checked before starting to record as well. I even recorded multiple times just to be safe. Each clip was reviewed to make sure it was usable before I left. I did this so I wouldn't have to comeback AGAIN. I was veyr picky with my details. Thankfully, since I refilmed, I was able to notice and fix some additional things I wouldn't even think of. It also taught m...

Production Blog #3: More Filming

Image
For my AICE Media Title, I set up my filming process very carefully. I wanted everything to look intense and realistic. So I filmed at Holiday Park. I went in the afternoon so that I could get the best lighting possible. The Lighting helped me create dramatic effects with shadows. I even invested in a tripod for the best shots possible. When there was action it was filmed handheld though. Low angle shots were also used to make things dramatic and powerful. I added up close-up shots for immense detail. I changed the variety of clipping style. I had improved sound quality. I even asked my friend to record certain things. We ensured to use filming rules, like rule of thirds. I made sure the background was great. Between the takes I went over what I recorded. I would adjust the camera settings as needed. Sometimes we even had multiple takes. In the end, I made my video look really professional. Everything was planned carefully down to the most minimal detail.

Production Blog #2: New Filming

Image
This week, my friend decided to text me and ask me if I still needed to film my Title. I texted him back and asked why. He offered to film it professionally with a really good camera. My friend does football videos and pictures for different high schools in the county. I texted him back, and we agreed on a time to set up this week. I was a little skeptical at first but decided to do it. I also wanted to refilm because I thought a Title would look so much better if it were done professionally, like an artist would. This Monday, we went back to Holiday Park and restarted the process. When we got there, my cameraman took out his big camera with all the different types of filters and set it up for filming. Everything looked so much smoother. He was really good at what he did. We did a lot of retakes because I wanted everything to be as crisp as possible now that we had a professional cameraman on board. He did a very good job, and it also made it a lot easier because he had a super n...

Production Blog #1: Filming

Image
On Feb 20th, I began filming the Title. I was ready to work. Everything started off smoothly. Since I was the director, I had to make sure I had all the equipment and props we were going to use. I made sure I had the footballs, my cleats, and my backpack. Before we began, I went over all the angels and motions so my video would be clean. The park I chose was crowded on the field, so I waited on a bench until it was open. Once the field was open, I began filming the first scene instantly. I acted it out pretty well. I recorded multiple takes so I could decide which was the best later on. For the next scene, I began to do some training. I tried a different approach with some cuts, and it seemed to work. At first, I was having trouble filming it. But I kept trying and I practiced what to do and I got it down. The shots were much cleaner and they looked crisp. That was the main trouble we had throughout the process. I continued to direct everything as well. I didn't need to set up the...

Storybook Blog:

Image
For the first image, the story starts off with me waking up and then just doing a morning routine, showing a sense of discipline, being locked in and getting the hard work done early.  The second image depicts me getting into the car and heading over to the field and preparing my mind and body to get to training. It shows me approaching the field and putting on my gear, along with a motivational qoute.      The third image shows me getting warmed up while stretching and running, something very important for kickers, and then doing some warmup kicks. For the final kick, it has a motivational qoute before the kick due to the heavy mental aspect of our game, and then making the big kick and ending off the storyboard with me on the field floor after a long session.
